Introduction

Mice Twice is a charming, funny and thoughtful fable about friendship, cleverness, irony, self-awareness and manners.

Cat would like to eat Mouse, so to lure her out, he invites her to supper. “May I bring a friend?” she asks; and Cat, envisioning “mice twice,”agrees.  Of course, this is a common theme in children’s literature, and I’m guessing your children will be charmed by it.

Written and illustrated by Joseph Low

What happens when a cat invites a mouse to dinner? She brings a friend, a dog. The dinner literally becomes a cat-and-mouse game as more animals arrive in pursuit of a tasty meal.

Cat, Mouse, Dog, Wolf, Crocodile and Lion are very proper dinner guests. The characters propose polite invitations, arrive on time, wear appropriate clothes, engage in small talk, and offer guests food.

Two Questions:
1.  What are considered good manners and table etiquette at your house?
2.  If you could invite an animal friend to dinner, which animal would you invite?

Lion was so big he all but filled Cat’s house. Have fun making your own lion with a mane as full as the one in the story! I love illustrator Sally Payne’s simply sweet drawings. Here are some of her drawings of lions.
